It has been plastered all over the national media, the front pages of newspapers, TV news, websites and the minds of fans everywhere - The 11th Doctor has been announced, and his name is Matt Smith. He is the man that has been chosen to take over the TARDIS when David Tennant's tenth Doctor regenerates at the end of the 2009 special episodes - most likely within the closing minutes of the Christmas 2009 special. It has been a casting choice that has surprised many people, and after the hype and theories that have been circulating in the run up to the announcement, some have seen it as something of an anti-climax. Mind you, it would have been an anti-climax whoever had been cast, after the huge build up.Matt Smith is the youngest actor to ever be cast as the rogue Time Lord known as The Doctor, contradicting new show-runner Steven Moffatt's claims that an older actor would be cast this time. It would seem that, as it should have been, they instead went with whoever fit the bill the best. While he may not share David Tennant's unabashed love of Doctor Who and it's history, he does seem to have ... [more..]

Every morning, you need to wake up and start the day off the right way. Why? Because how you begin a day will generally dictate the kind of overall experience you will have. For example, many people assume that it's nothing more than luck that determines whether or not you will have a great day. Nothing could be further from the truth. Here are three tips to help you:1) Don't watch the TV news. The very first thing you need to avoid doing is watching TV news. The reason why it is so important that you not watch TV news is because there is nothing but negativity being spewed every day from the TV news. Look, it's not about pretending that bad things don't happen in the world. We all know they do. It's a question about whether or not it makes sense to start your day with the bad news.2) Spend three minutes telling yourself positive things.Don't laugh, but spending three minutes telling yourself positive things every morning will actually help change the way your brain operates. I'm not a scientist, but I know this works.3) Smile and tell yourself that you're awesome.Stand in front of the mirror and smile. ... [more..]

"Images can either imprison or liberate us." -Roberto AssagioliTonight I saw a panel of White House correspondents talking about what it was like to cover the White House. They ask questions of administration officials because there are always questions to ask, then write their story and go on camera (if they're a TV reporter) and report what that official said. The last question an audience member asked the panel was, "Sure you ask questions, but what else are you doing to see if there's more to the story than you're being told? It's your job to inform us, your viewers, if there is."After years of covering county, city, and state government in Texas (and those were the days we asked elected officials tough questions and we didn't let them off the hook -- the questions were only the beginning of the research we did to tell our viewers what their government was doing with their tax dollars), I began a 9 year career with a TV station that allowed me to do over 2,000 feature stories about unique people, off-the-beaten path places, and it is the feature story which I came to love doing so much that I want to ... [more..]

Did you know that you can have unlimited access to most of the satellite TV channels that are available on normal cable and satellite TV for free? Yes, it's true. If you have a basic windows pc and access to the internet, you can get software that will allow you to access hundreds or even thousands of satellite TV channels for free without a subscription and without the need to install a satellite dish. There are many software packages that will allow you to get a free satellite TV system. Some of these software programs are free, but they often come with a lot of spy ware and annoying ads. Also, most of the free ones don't allow you to access some of the more high quality channels for sports, news, movies and documentaries. They start asking you to subscribe in order to get those extra channels. But there's software that you can buy that will give you lifetime access to hundreds of channels with no monthly subscription fees, no ad ware and no annoying ads. It's one of the best ways to get a free satellite TV system which you can watch on your pc. The software is very affordable ... [more..]

The IELTS Listening test comes first, and many candidates find it a hard, sometime even discouraging, way to get started. The IELTS Listening task tests a diverse range of skills, and many people find it challenging. There are many ways to prepare for this portion of the IELTS exam. There are, for example, many practice tapes and CD sets on the commercial market. While all of them are helpful to some degree, the one thing you can be sure is that none of them will be the IELTS Listening test you take. The good news is that the best forms of IELTS Listening practice are available free, or at least readily and at low cost. They're also more fun. They are radio, TV, and movies! If you have access to an English-language radio or TV station, listen to it as often as possible. The benefits are many.- You become familiar with a wide variety of accents and individual ways of speaking- You get the rhythms of spoken English sentences in your ear- You become more familiar with the way native speakers pronounce English words- You start to hear word patterns and notice the way English sentences are put together- You begin to learn ... [more..]
